During World War Two , Liverpool and Merseyside was heavily bombed . A series of enemy raids in May became infamous as the May blitz when Liverpool city centre was destroyed .
Throughout this ordeal the citizens of Liverpool and Merseyside continued to go about their daily lives many volunteering for the emergency services it was these citizens serving in the A.R.P. and Auxiliary Fire Service that bore the brunt of these raids .
