Liverpool Blitz

During World War Two , Liverpool and Merseyside was heavily bombed . A series of enemy raids in May became infamous as the May blitz when Liverpool city centre was destroyed .














Throughout this ordeal the citizens of Liverpool and Merseyside continued to go about their daily lives many volunteering for the emergency services it was these citizens serving in the A.R.P. and Auxiliary Fire Service that bore the brunt of these raids .

Dunkirk casualties June 1940

In the early part of June 1940 the British Expeditionary Force withdrew to the channel ports , Dunkirk became the most famous of them . I have identified some of the men from Liverpool and Merseyside who became casualties in the evacuation .

Dunkirk casualties May 1940

The France and Belgium campaign 1939-40 began with the " phoney war " and ended with the withdrawal from Dunkirk . Many men from Liverpool and Merseyside were engaged in this campaign I have identified some of the casualties from May 1940 as reported in the Evening Express newspaper .
